Kenyans looking to visit Sweden for tourism, sightseeing or other leisure activities require a short-stay tourist visa. The Sweden tourist visa also serves as a visitor's visa; it permits the holder to visit friends and relatives residing in Sweden. Sweden is a Schengen country. The Sweden Schengen tourist visa is valid for 6 months in which you can stay in the Schengen region for not more than 90 days. The Sweden tourist visa has two types: Single-entry - valid for 90 days. If you received a decision you are not satisfied with, you can submit a written appeal no later than 3 weeks from the day you received the decision. In your appeal, write down which decision you are not satisfied with, and why and how you want it to be changed. This appeal should be submitted directly to the Swedish embassy or consulate handling the application.

The Swedish business visa is issued to Kenyans who intend to travel to Sweden for business purposes. Issued single Schengen visa applies to the entire Schengen zone member countries. For this reason, once you get a short-stay business visa, you can travel throughout the entire Schengen zone. The business visa is also a short-stay visa and permits a stay of no longer than 90 days within 180 days. It is necessary for business travelers to have an original passport with at least six months of validity. This passport must also have two blank pages. If there exist previous trade relations between your company and the Swedish company, you are required to provide proof of this. This could be bills of lading, customs clearance, receipts of payment or any similar documents. It is important to provide business references such as a letter from your employer and an invitation from the Swedish company. The letter must include: The full address and contacts of the company. Name and position of the countersigning officer. Purpose and duration of the visit. The person that will bear the travel and living costs and whether the sponsor gives financial guarantee for the visa applicants' return to Kenya.  Note that you cannot use the Swedish business visa to seek public funds in Sweden.

The medical visa allows Kenyans visiting Sweden to receive medical treatment while they are in the country. A medical report from your local doctor should be provided. The report should include your diagnosis and the reason the treatment is best gotten in Sweden. The date of your appointment and your medical situation should be stated in the attestation from the hospital in Sweden. If you are employed, a letter from your employer is required. Your employer should state in the letter that he is aware of your leave. Your position and how long you have been employed in the company should be clearly stated. For those retired, a document showing pension statement and other forms of financial support should be provided. Payment receipt of medical fees should be tendered during the visa application process. Minors must ensure they possess the original copy of their birth certificate. If they are traveling alone or with one of their parents, a document of consent which is signed by both parents of the minor should be provided. You are not allowed to work while you are in the country. At the end of your treatment, you are expected to leave the country. Holders are not allowed to take up permanent residence in the country. Proof of paid visa application fee is required.

Kenyans who intend to travel to Sweden for educational purposes are eligible for the Swedish student visa. Visas and residence permits for international students in Sweden depend on the duration of their course study.  There are two types of Swedish student visa: Short-stay student visa: This visa is valid for three months. Long-stay student visa: This visa is valid for one year, and it is also extendable. If you are applying for the long-stay visa, you are required to also apply for a residence permit.  If you are the recipient of a scholarship, student aid or similar grant, you are required to provide documents supporting this, showing your name, the monthly amount you are entitled to and the period during which you will receive the fund. If you are a doctoral student, you must provide the decision on your admission as a doctoral student with information about the time of admission as well as a certificate with the details of the doctoral studies, issued by the place of study. If you are not going to study on a scholarship, you need to pay a portion of the fee before submitting your application for the permit and provide proof of payment. Students are required to show proof of financial stability. Students must have at least 90 dollars (540 SEK) for each day of their stay in Sweden. You must also provide proof that you have comprehensive health insurance in Sweden. If you have insurance through the school, you are required to send confirmation of this. An admission letter can serve as proof in this case. To be eligible for student residence permit, you must require the following: You must be admitted to a full-time accredited university for studies in Sweden. You must have paid the first installment of the tuition fees for your course of study. You must have valid supporting documentation to support your residence permit application. You must possess letter of admission from the university that has offered you admission in its course of study.

To qualify for a work permit, you must have received an official offer of employment from a Swedish employer. The job must also: Have been advertised in the EU/EEA for at least ten days. Offer terms of employment that match those set by Swedish collective agreements or those that are customary within the occupation or industry. Pay a minimum monthly salary of SEK 13,000 before taxes. Applicants must be between the age of 18 - 30 years before applying for the Swedish work visa. Applicants of this visa should ensure they confirm their employment in Sweden before initiating the visa application process. Letter from your employer confirming your employment in Sweden should be provided. The company’s address and your job description should be stated in the letter. Proof that you will not be paid below the minimum wage by your employer should be provided. Foreigners in the country are expected to abide by all the rules guiding their visa.
