Eritrea is home to a large number of wildlife and the regulations enforced by the Eritrean government has helped to steadily increase the number of wildlife animals. There are various species of mammals and 560 species of birds. While in the country you can see wonderful animals like the Abyssinia hare, African wild cat, Black-backed jackal, African golden wolf, Lions, African bush elephants and a host of others. Tourism in Eritrea is not as dominant as it used to be in the previous century. Although, the government is putting in a very big effort to develop the country’s tourism and make it better than what it was.
 
Visitors are not allowed to take photographs of military and government buildings. If you want to exchange money, it should be done at a state foreign currency exchange Himbol branch, it is illegal to do it anywhere else. All foreign currencies in excess of $10,000 should be declared on entry into Eritrea.

Foreigners are required to declare all electronic items in their possession on entry into Eritrea. Failure to do so may result in the confiscation of such items on departure. There is a $20 departure tax normally included in airline ticket prices.

The Tourist Visa allows foreigners to visit Eritrea for recreation, relaxation, and sightseeing. Foreigners can visit their friends and relatives residing in the country. Applicants visiting their friends and relatives in the country are expected to have a letter of invitation from their host. The letter should state the applicants' relationship with the host, as well as, the contact details of the host. Kenyans who intend to travel through a tourist group would have to provide a letter of invitation from a registered tourist group in Eritrea. Kenyans in Eritrea are not prohibited from attending events and festivals holding in the country. Applicants' passport with a validity of not less than six months should be submitted. The passport  should have at least two blank pages for the Eritrea visa stamp. Applicants are to submit a completed and signed visa application form. A letter from your employer written on the company’s letterhead confirming employment and allowance of leave. The letter should state the address of the company and the duration of your leave. For non-Kenyans, a copy of their stay permit in Kenya is required. Minors should present the original copy of their birth certificate. If the minor is  traveling with one or none of his/her parents, a letter of consent signed by the parents is required. Proof of financial sufficiency covering the applicants duration of stay should be submitted. The visa takes about 15 working days for processing. applicants are advised to make their application at least 1 month before the proposed date of travel. An official letter of invitation from your partner company in Eritrea is required. The letter must indicate your job position, the address of the company, duration, and purpose of the business trip. If you are meeting with more than one company, a letter of invitation from each company should be submitted during the visa application.
