Mongolia is a prime tourist destination because of its national museum which displays historic and ethnographic artifacts. The Yolyn Am, a deep gorge with ice; and the Flaming Cliffs, orange bluffs where dinosaur fossils are found. National parks and lakes are top sites for tourists as there are a lot of activities on offer for tourists to take part in.
 
Every year, since the last decade, an average of 350,000 foreigners visit Mongolia yearly. In a bid to increase the number of foreign visitors to Mongolia, the government offered special tax exemption of up to 10% of the total investment offered for construction of highly rated hotels. Licenses for tourism business was nullified are tour operators are now not required to pay VAT.
 
Do not buy, sell, kill or capture any protected wild animal or trade its parts without a license. Anyone caught would receive lengthy prison sentences and a fine. Be aware of the local customs and avoid wearing short sleeves, this can be seen as offensive.
 
Nationals of United States, Brazil, Georgia, Serbia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine can visit Mongolia for up to 90 days without a visa. Citizens of Canada, Cuba, Germany, Israel, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, and Russia are allowed to visit the country without a visa for up to 30 days.

Travelers are advised to travel with their medical supplies as medical facilities in the country are limited.

The Tourist Visa is issued to foreign citizens who are visiting Mongolia for recreation, relaxation and sightseeing. An original passport with the validity of at least six months is required. A 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport photograph is required. Foreigners on the visa can also visit their friends and relatives residing in the country. If the purpose of your travel is to visit friend or family, a tourist visa is not needed. You should apply for a family visa instead. If the applicant isn't staying with a friend or relative, a proof of a hotel reservation in Mongolia must be provided. Foreigners who are attending events and festivals during their time in the country are free to do so on this visa. If employed, the letter from the applicant’s employer should be provided. The letter should confirm awareness of leave and should state continuing employment after the duration of the leave. A copy of your return flight ticket must be provided. As a tourist traveler you are expected to have at least 19 dollars per day in Mongolia. A copy of your bank statement for the last six months is required; this shows that you have sufficient funds to stay in Mongolia. Underage children should possess the original copy of their birth certificate, as well as, a notarized consent signed by both their parents. Applicants should present a document which shows that they have the incentive of returning to their country at the expiry of their visa. You are allowed to bring in medicines for personal use.  Other valuables like wine, cigarettes and beers are allowed to be brought in from your country. Receipt of paid visa fee is required. The Mongolian Business Visa is issued to foreigners who have the intention of visiting Mongolia for various business activities. The business visa has three types; B visa, HG visa and T visa.             - B Visa:  is a single entry business visa valid for thirty days.             - HG visa:  is a single entry business visa valid for a year.             - T visa:  is a multiple entry visa  valid for six months to a year. It can be renewed annually. The applicant must have a passport valid for at least six months beyond stay, and also a round trip or onward ticket. During business meetings with their partners in Mongolia, businessmen and women can negotiate and sign business contracts. Applicants of this visa can also attend trade fairs, conferences and business summits. Kenyans traveling to the country to attend conferences should ensure they register for the conference before traveling to the country. Letter of employment from the applicant’s employer in Kenya should be provided. The letter should state the applicant’s job position, the duration and the purpose of the applicant’s visit. An invitation letter from the company you will be meeting up with in Mongolia is required. The letter should contain the company’s contact details and the purpose of the applicant’s visit. Foreigners applying for this visa intend to take up paid work while in Mongolia. Applicants of the work visa should ensure they have been offered employment in an organization in the country before initiating the visa application process. A letter of employment from the applicant’s future employer in Mongolia stating the position the applicant has been offered is needed. Kenyans who do not have the required qualification that matches the job they have been offered will not be granted this visa. The employing company in the country must provide proof that there was no citizen of Mongolia willing to take up the job before you were offered the job position. Applicants of this visa may be a senior manager who wants to work in a joint venture, branch, or its representative office. Upon arrival to Mongolia, applicants must register with the  Immigration Agency within 7 days, obtain a residence card within 21 days and obtain work permit within 10 business days. Before you obtain the work permit, your work visa application must include the following;            - Cover letter            - The company's copy of  state registration, certificate of  foreign incorporation as well as a special permission to employ foreigners.            - Copy of passport pages clearly containing passport number, date of issue, expiry date, your name and date of birth.             - Copy of marriage certificate and birth certificate of  family members, if applicable. The work visa can be extended up to 30 days once in six months. Holders of this visa are eligible for long-term residence permit. This is to be arranged with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. A fee of 216,000 MNT per month is payable to the ministry in advance plus 60,000 MNT application fee.

The Mongolian student visa is also called a type "S" visa. A letter from the institution the applicant has been accepted to is required. The letter should be written on the institution's letterhead and signed by the head of the institution. The Type "S" visa is issued to foreigners visiting Mongolia for the purposes of studying, training, internship and research. The applicant should get prior approval from the Office of Immigration,  Naturalisation and Foreign Citizens (OINFC) in Ulaanbaatar. The cost of studying in Mongolia depends on the particular program you are enrolled into. A ballpark figure for a year’s university tuition is US$2,000. The cost of living in Mongolia is not expensive, so accommodation, food and entertainment average out at around US$400 per month. Certificates and transcripts of schools previously attended by the applicant should be provided. Foreign students are allowed to work part-time when school is in session and full-time when the school is on break. It is possible for international students to be granted permanent residence in Mongolia  after completing their studies. The Mongolia student visa can be extended to cover the entire duration of study. If you are a minor, a copy of your birth certificate is required. This visa is for Kenyans who have the intention of making short stops in Mongolia. With this visa, foreigners can board a connecting flight from an airport in Mongolia to their destination country. A passport with the minimum of two blank pages, and with validity of at least six months beyond the intended stay is required. A single recent colored passport photograph is also required. Visa and other entry permits of applicant’s destination country are required. A copy of plane ticket entering and exiting Mongolia should be provided. Flight ticket to your destination country is required. An official itinerary on headed paper from your tour company in Mongolia listing all services and dates should be provided. Applicants of this visa cannot receive payment for the services they render while they are in the country. Holders of this visa are not permitted to enroll in one of the academic institutions in the country for study purposes.
