The annual growth rate of the industry is in fact estimated to be at 25% for the past five years.


Drug-related crimes are harshly treated as drug-smugglers are made to face long prison sentences. The majority of the products made with animals or plants are made from illegal means and could involve protected or endangered species. Tourists are advised not to buy any products made with animals and plants. It is also illegal for artifacts to be exported.

 

Tourists from North America, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and the European Union can visit Peru without a visa for stays of up to 183 days. Russians are granted entry without a visa for stays of up to 90 days.


Foreigners should avoid unlit and unpopulated areas, especially at night as tourists are often the target of petty thieves. Pickpockets are very common in the city, don’t go around with wallets, instead, use a neck purse.

Applicants of the tourist visa have the intention of visiting Peru for tourism purposes. With this visa, travelers can visit tourist sites in various locations across the country.  Two recent 2 x 2'' passport photographs are required for the visa application. A letter from your employer in Kenya should be provided. Your employer should state that he/she has granted permission for your leave. Your status in the company and the length of your employment should be clearly stated in the letter. Students who intend to study at a Peruvian educational institution or desiring to do an internship or apprenticeship at a Peruvian company can also do so with this visa -- as long as the program duration does not exceed 180 days. The Peruvian tourist visa is a single-entry visa. If you need to re-enter the country after leaving, you will need to get another visa. Foreigners who intend to sign contracts in the country need a permit from the Immigration Office, otherwise the contracts will not be valid. If you are under the age of 18 years, the unabridged original copy of your birth certificate should be submitted. You are also required to have a letter of consent signed by both your parents if you are traveling alone. Kenyans on this visa are not allowed to take up paid or unpaid employment during their time in Peru.  Like in most countries, you are not allowed to work with the tourist visa. The Tourist Visa cannot be extended after it has expired. The maximum stay in Peru on a tourist visa is 183 days per year. Vaccinations for the following conditions are required:                 - Hepatitis A                 - Hepatitis B                 - Chicken pox                 - Yellow fever If you overstay your visa, you will be asked to pay a fine of $1 per day since the expiration of the visa.

Foreigners traveling to Peru for business purposes need to secure a business visa. Holders of the Peru business visa can negotiate and sign business contracts while they are in the country. They can also engage in other business-related activities, such as attending conferences, summits and trade fairs. Unlike the tourist visa, the Peru business visa is a multiple-entry visa. A business introduction letter is required of the visa applicant. A letter of invitation from the host company must also be provided. This letter must include:             - Your full name, date of birth, nationality and intended dates of travel.             - The name of the host organization, their address and phone number.             - The purpose and nature of your visit in detail.             - Number of intended entries and length of validity of the visa. Copy of Kenyan residence permit must be provided. The certificate of business registration of the company in Peru is required. Even though the business visa is a multiple-entry visa, it cannot be extended after it expires. Proof of previous business dealings with the Peruvian company must be provided, if any. Receipt of payment of visa application fee should also be provided. A police report stating that you have not been convicted before is required.

The work visa is for Kenyans who intend to take up paid work in Peru. If you want to work in Peru, you will need a special visa called  “ el Carné de extranjeria ” that translates to Foreign Resident ID Card. This visa allows you to work without having a limit to the number of days you can stay in the country. To apply for the Foreign Resident ID Card, you will need to pay an initial fee of $200 and then $20 yearly. Before applying for the Peruvian Work Visa, you must have had a contract with a company that wants to hire you in the country. The contract must be signed and approved by Peruvian Labor Ministry. You have to book an appointment with Interpol for you to take an exam. This exam will determine if you are really qualified for the job being offered. A letter of confirmation of employment contract should be submitted during the visa application process. Proof of appointment confirmation must be provided. The contract offered to applicants must be valid for a minimum of one year. Kenyans are required to present a copy of their stay permit in the country. Applicants should ensure they have been vaccinated against yellow fever.  Also, immunization against malaria is necessary. Receipt of paid visa application fee is required. Foreigners applying for this visa are required to have a clean criminal record. Previously convicted criminals may not be issued this visa.
