Basic Travel Requirements for Kenyans visiting Norway

  • National passport which is valid for at least three months after the intended date of exiting the country. The passport should have two blank pages at the time of application.

This visa allows Kenyans to visit Norway for tourism. With the tourist visa, foreigners can visit family and friends in the country. Norway is part of the Schengen countries. Norway is a member of the  four European Free Trade Association (EFTA). An original, signed Kenyan passport with at least six-month validity is required. Two identical 35mm x 45mm passport-sized photographs are required. Applicants of this visa cannot study while they are in Norway. A signed letter from your employer containing the duration of your leave, the number of years you have been employed, terms of employment, and the company’s contact details are required for employed applicants. A cover letter stating your purpose of visit to Norway. Copy of residence permit for non-Kenyans applying for this visa from Kenya is required. If you are under the age of 18, the original copy of your birth certificate should be provided. Minor’s traveling without their parents is required to have the notarized consent signed by both their parents. Copy of flight itinerary must be provided, this must show the dates and time of entry and exit to Norway. Applicant must have proof of medical travel insurance. It must have a coverage of  € 30,000. This is valid for all Schengen states. Copy of your bank statement from the last six months is required. Proof of payment of visa fee. You will need to provide proof of your civil status in the form of a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, or ration card, if applicable. Kenyans cannot be paid for the services they render while they are in the country. If you intend to attend conferences while you are in Norway, proof that you have registered and paid to attend the conference is required. Kenyans are not allowed to seek public funds in the country. Retired persons should possess a pension statement or documents showing other financial support from the last 6 months.

A Kenyan who wants to stay and study in Norway will require either a student visa. If you plan on staying in Norway for more than three months, you will have to apply for a residence permit. The Norway student visa and the residence permit do not refer to the same document. To be eligible for Norway Student Visa or Residence Permit, you must provide the official letter of acceptance issued by your hosting Norway university or educational institute or polytechnic. You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your entire study period. Receipt that you have paid the application fee of NOK 5,300 must be provided. Evidence that you have  sufficient financial funds for the entire period of study must be provided. You need to prove you have access to NOK 116,369 for 10 months (academic year). Proof of accommodation must be provided. A copy of your UDI document must be provided. The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration requires the money to be deposited in a Norwegian bank account., this is a general rule.  Applicants are advised to make sure their passport is valid for at least three   (3)  months after the end of their intended travel and that it has been issued no later than ten   (10)  years ago. Two recent 35mm x 45mm passport photographs with white background must be provided. The embassy or consulate you are using reserves the right to ask for additional documents or a second appearance for an interview in special cases.
